Some grief begins before goodbye. Some arrives slowly. Some shatters everything at once.
🌱 Anticipatory Grief
For the ache that begins before loss
Anticipatory grief is the grief you carry while your dog is still here—loving them while knowing time is fragile. It often comes with guilt: Why am I grieving when they’re still alive?
The answer is simple and tender: because you love deeply.
Reflection: Loving While Letting Go
Place a hand over your heart or on your dog if they are beside you.
Ask yourself:
- What am I afraid of losing most?
- What moments matter most right now?
- What would I regret not saying or doing?
There is no need to rush these answers. Let them arrive gently.
Gentle Guidance
Anticipatory grief does not take away from the present—it reveals how precious it is. You are not betraying your dog by feeling this grief. You are honoring the bond.
Love is already doing its work.
